  16. A US modem will reliably "recognize" the British remote ringing signal
  17. as a busy tone. (Can't blame it, I'm fooled myself every time I make a
  18. call to the UK.) There might be other incompatibilities with call
  19. progress signals, forcing you to switch off recognition of these.
